Visiting Scholars Take Part in “China Week” at University at Buffalo

Two visiting scholars from Hunan First Normal University participated in the annual “China Week” event at the University at Buffalo (UB), part of the State University of New York system, from April 20 to 24, 2026.

Li Jinguo and Deng Lv, both visiting scholars at UB, joined a colleague from Jilin University to set up cultural exhibits, give on‑site explanations, and facilitate cross‑cultural exchanges. The event was organized by UB’s Center for China Studies, which has hosted “China Week” for more than 20 years as a platform to showcase Chinese culture and promote Sino‑American cultural understanding.

The exhibit featured traditional Chinese clothing (including the qipao), folk crafts, Chinese knots, porcelain, calligraphy, paper fans, lanterns, oil‑paper umbrellas, the 12 zodiac signs, and books on Chinese culture. The visiting scholars explained the historical and aesthetic meanings behind these items, highlighting themes of good fortune, festivals, family culture, and the diversity of Chinese traditions.

The event drew students, faculty, staff, and local community members, many of whom showed strong interest in Chinese calligraphy, zodiac signs, traditional dress, and daily life in contemporary China.

The participation of Li and Deng reflects Hunan First Normal University’s efforts to encourage faculty engagement in international cultural exchange. The university says it will continue to support such activities to enhance its global presence and cultural influence.
