On April 5th, Liu Qihou , a famous folk photographer, gave a lecture named "Hu Xiang culture at the sight of folk photography" in the video meeting room of technical building in our school. Mr. Liu Shuxin(director of School of Literature and Journalism),Mr. Long Yonggan (deputy dean of school of Literature and Journalism),all the students whose majors were Broadcasting and Television and New Media and teachers attended this lecture.
Liu Qihou, whose pen name is Lao Hou, is the executive member of the presidium Committee of Chinese Folk Photography Association ,the FPST, the member of China Photographers' Association.
Though he is 73 years old, he devoted himself to only one thing for 40 years. He travelled around Hunan province with his wife, recorded countless traditional culture issues, making a great contribution to the reservation of folk cultures and further development. Since 1980, he published several hundred photography works in People's Daily, China Pictorial and over 100 journals home and abroad, won the national prizes for 17times.He has been invented twice to present the workshop of folk culture at the United Nations. He gained some awards including "one of the top ten figures of Chinese culture" ,"one of the top ten news figures of the protection of national intangible cultural heritage", "one of the top ten outstanding figures of the protection of Hunan provinces intangible cultural heritage ","one of the top ten figures of moral model" etc.
Before the lecture, Liu expressed his opinions on folk culture and the distinction between photographic art and other forms of art. He advised " shooting needs a perspective of culture to see our world." After that, he said to everyone humorously：as a guide of the cultural trip I would accompany you to the remote countryside, to feel the nature, to experience the various geographical and diverse of cultural phenomenon.
Next, Mr. Liu presented a scene of grand feast about Hunan culture with more than two hundred porcelain pictures. There are crazy and holy wedding customs of Huayao ，colorful dress and lace of Huayao, strange and sacred folkways of building and folk culture papers. There is a legend about folk-custom behind each of the photo, which arouse the attention , devotion and of teachers and students .
Finally, Dean Liu did a summary shared with the audience his thoughts. First, students should have a goal and stick to it .Secondly, to achieve goals one must find a companion who has the same interest as you. Third, folk cultures can lure the interest of the world. It's the best example that Liu made national cultures go out of Hunan, China, and to the world. Last but not least , he hoped every student can undertake the responsibility of promoting Hunan cultures.
