On September 3, HNFNU hosted a themed training session on the development of first-class undergraduate programs in Room 228, Shuangchuang Building of the Dongfanghong Campus. The Party secretary Luo Chengyi and vice-president Zhou Faming attended the event.
At the opening ceremony, Chengyi Luo highlighted the necessity of deepening undergraduate education reform and improving talent cultivation quality, and set clear requirements for reform implementation. First, the reform forms the core of moral education. Second, first-class talent cultivation is the foundation of a university. Third, first-class undergraduate education is an inherent requirement of “quality HNFNU”. The establishment of “Quality HNFNU” demands excellent talent cultivation quality. All education activities ─ from talent cultivation planning, program development, and course design to practicum/experimental facilities construction and industry-education integration ─ should serve that end. It also requires high employment rate, high employment quality and high postgraduate enrollment rate.
Finally, Luo pointed out that undergraduate education needs to be taken as top priority, and called on to increase support for teaching. Leaders should know well about teaching and place teaching high on the list of priorities in decision-making. Teachers should devote themselves into teaching, faithful to their vocation and responsible for their classes. Funding should lean towards teaching. An incentive mechanism that more strongly encourages teaching needs to be introduced, so as to strike a balance between teaching and scientific research.
