Professor Ning Yizhong from Beijing Language and Culture University Delivered Lectures in Hunan First Normal University

In the afternoon of July 2nd,at the invitation of “Music Forum” with the Academy of Foreign Studies, Ning Yizhong ,a well-known professor from Beijing Language and Culture University came to our school to deliver lectures. The topic is to examine contemporary western literary theories against the background of Chinese culture. The talk was presided over by Professor Liu Xiangqing,dean of the Academy of Foreign Studies.And many teachers from the Academy of Foreign Studies and the pubic foreign language teaching department listened to the talk.

Professor Ning Yizhong introduced the theme with Luther’s story. To begin with, he compared the features of both Chinese and western cultures, talking about old and contemporary literary works both at home and abroad.He revealed the limitations of contemporary western literary theories from many different aspects when it comes to Chinese literature.He demonstrated the charmful and profound Chinese culture and referred to “plagiarism” in interpreting Chinese literature with western literary theories. He pointed out that western literary theories introduced many unique perspectives in interpreting Chinese literature, but researchers should base everything on China’s reality and avoid following western literary theories blindly. At the same time, we should avoid denying them completely.
