The first Xiangjiang New Area Community Robot Friendship Tournament—also known as the “Community BA (Robot Alliance)” was held on March 28 at the gymnasium of Hongqiao Primary School in the Changsha High-tech District, blending Lei Feng’s spirit of selfless service with young people’s passion for science and technology.
The tournament was jointly organized by Changqing Community of Lugu Street, the School of Education of Hunan First Normal University, and other local partners. The event brought together university students and local teenagers for a unique science outreach activity held “in their own neighborhood”.
Young participants were divided into four groups and competed in a dual-track format: robot building plus a science quiz. The challenge was themed around rice farming, with contestants operating robots to complete seeding, transplanting, and harvesting tasks. During the event, an educational video titled “The Time Answer Sheet of a Grain of Rice” was screened. It showed the evolution from traditional farming to smart agriculture, reinforcing the ideas of using technology to boost agriculture and of selfless dedication.
“We expect children to experience the charm of technology right in their neighborhood, and to understand what dedication and responsibility mean through activities like this,” said a representative from the School of Education, Hunan First Normal University. The organizer added that the tournament was not only a practical step in science outreach, but also an innovative attempt by the university to serve the local communities and work together with it in educating the younger generation.
