A delegation from Yeungnam University (YU) in South Korea visited Hunan First Normal University (HNFNU) on May 20 to explore further collaboration between the two institutions.
The Korean delegation was led by Ryu Su‑kyung, Director of the International Admissions Division at YU, along with other officials and regional representatives. HFNU was represented by Hu Chunguang, Director of the Academic Planning and Graduate Studies Office; Chen Yanjun, Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange and Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan Affairs; and other faculty members.
Hu Chunguang welcomed the delegation and highlighted HNFNU’s identity as a “thousand‑year academy, century normal school, home school of President Mao and cradle of revolution” in his opening remarks. He noted that the two universities have already signed an academic exchange framework agreement and a student exchange agreement. The first group of nine HNFNU students will go to Yeungnam University for exchange studies this fall, laying a solid foundation for deeper cooperation.
Ryu Su‑kyung thanked HNFNU for its hospitality and introduced Yeungnam University’s strengths. She noted that YU ranks among South Korea’s top universities in campus size and student population, consistently ranking to 13th to 15th nationally. She expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation with HNFNU.
During the talks, both sides discussed joint academic programs, graduate student co‑training, regular exchange student placements, short‑term study tours, and faculty visits. Several areas of agreement were reached.
Chen Yanjun said the meeting was productive and broadened the vision for bilateral cooperation in her closing remarks. “Both universities are confident about the future of our partnership,” she added.
After the meeting, the two sides exchanged commemorative gifts. The Korean delegation toured the Normal Education Museum of HNFNU and the “Red Wall”, learning about the university’s century‑old heritage and revolutionary culture.
The visit marks an important step in strengthening ties between the two universities, supporting HNFNU’s efforts to internationalize its education, enhance academic disciplines, and improve talent cultivation.
