President Yu Zuguo Leads Delegation to Hong Kong and Macau

A delegation from Hunan First Normal University (HNFNU), led by President Yu Zuguo, visited Hong Kong and Macau from May 26 to 29 to strengthen educational collaboration with the two special administrative regions. The delegation met with the Liaison Offices of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong and Macau, several major universities, and the Fok Ying Tung Foundation. Talks focused on ideological and political education, national education, joint academic programs, student and faculty exchanges, and collaborative talent cultivation.

Building on Shared Values

President Yu introduced HNFNU’s centuryold history as a normal university, its revolutionary heritage, and its current development plans. Noting the strong alignment in educational philosophies and previous successful cooperation, Yu called for deeper partnerships and longterm mechanisms to integrate quality educational resources from both sides.

Hong Kong Visits

In Hong Kong, the delegation met with the Education and Science & Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. Officials discussed how mainland universities can help enhance national education for Hong Kong youth. The Liaison Office expressed hope that HFNU would bring its mature ideological and political education resources into Hong Kong’s general education system to boost patriotism among Hong Kong youth.

The delegation also visited the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). With EdUHK, they discussed codeveloping national education courses, compiling supporting textbooks, and exchanging visiting faculty. PolyU President JinGuang Teng praised HNFNU’s long history and distinctive teachertraining mission. The two sides explored student exchange and joint training programs, agreeing to establish regular communication and diversified cooperation models.

Macau Visits

In Macau, the delegation met with the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Macau Liaison Office. The office acknowledged the role of HNFNU’s revolutionary heritage sites in supporting Macau’s patriotic education and proposed regular research tours. It plans to send Macau students to HFNU for immersive summer programs to strengthen their sense of national identity. At the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), both sides agreed to regularly carry out national education activities using HNFNU’s unique resources. At the City University of Macau (CityU Macau), they discussed ongoing faculty and student exchanges, academic seminars, and student activities to broaden cooperation.

Meeting with Fok Ying Tung Foundation

The delegation also visited the Fok Ying Tung Foundation, discussing potential collaboration in basic education empowerment, sports specialty development, and cultural branding. The foundation said it would review and consider supporting specific project proposals submitted by the university.

Outcomes and Future Steps

The fourday trip produced a series of concrete agreements, reinforcing HNFNU’s partnerships with Hong Kong and Macau institutions and deepening pathways for ideological education, national education, and twoway exchanges. University officials said the visit provides a strong platform for HNFNU to advance its open-up education, strengthen specialized disciplines, and cultivate highquality talent.

The delegation included heads of HNFNU’s Office of Research and Development, School of Marxism, School of Mathematics and Statistics, and Institute of Revolutionary Heritage and Culture.
